The Miami Heat are the 2012 NBA Champions.
The playoffs have FINALLY ended.
Will you miss the NBA?
Or is college basketball more your taste?
Professional basketball isn't a top sports priority for me, and honestly, I'm glad the season is over
The playoffs were almost as long as the regular season, or so it seemed.
I'm not a huge basketball fan, especially if there's not a story for me to follow.
Sure, it was King James and his quest for a ring, but really, that's the story that's been around since Cleveland.
I attend Troy University, so I pull for Troy. If you know anything about the Trojans recent basketball history, it hasn't been thrilling.
However, college basketball has a bit of excitement to me that the NBA doesn't offer.
The NBA draft was last night and Anthony Davis was the top pick by the Hornets. It came as no surprise. He was dominate his freshman year at Kentucky.
His teammate Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was drafted second overall, and that's not a regular occurrence. Two guys from the same college.
Kentucky is a basketball powerhouse, and they'll have to rebuild after losing so many key players, but didn't they just do that last season as well?
College basketball players have drive; they have incentive. The guys in the big league, well they're fighting for a ring, but they've made it to a certain plateau that many players won't get past.
They made it to the pros, but they aren't star players.
In college, players are fighting for the chance to prove themselves in the pros & that fight can produce exciting games and fierce tournament runs.
Remember Kenneth Faried from Morehead State? Remember that run in the tournament?
That's what I'm talking about.
The tournament has such passion. It tops most other sporting events in my opinion. It doesn't get much better than fighting game to game to win a championship.
Seven game series don't have the same draw for me.
And the new college football playoff, well, that's another story for another blog.
