How'd you become a fan?: Part 3

One and two are in, now it's time to get to part three.

Sometimes you fall in love with...

The Team.

This is more complex. Sometimes, you fall in love with a certain team. Say, the ’04 Red Sox, or the ’11 New York Giants.

The reality is that may and probably will be the only season those players are linked on the same squad.

Falling in love with a team is dangerous.

It can lead you straight into heartbreak the next year.

But while things are going good, you could be on top of the world.

Is it worth the heartbreak?

Yes. A thousand times yes.

Call it bandwaggoning, call it what you want, but there are some teams that are easy to fall for.

If you don't have a favorite team, or if you are a casual fan of a certain sport, it's easy to pick a team that gets hot and ride them to a championship.

But it's not always a successful team that you fall for.

What if you fall for a team that has potential, but doesn't capitalize?

There's also the problem of falling for a player, like I did.

I am a huge Peyton Manning fan, and I mistook myself for a Colts fan.

Wrong.

I am a Manning fan, but the Colts do nothing for me now that the quarterback isn't 18.

When you fall for a player, it's also dangerous, because your allegiance may fall with three different teams in a five year period.

However, the ride is certainly a thrill.
